Kevin Gates is an American entrepreneur singer, and rapper. His original name is Kevin Jerome Gilyard. Mostly his lyrics deal with subjects like prison time, poverty, and depression. 

Gates was born in New Orleans on 5 February 1986. From an early age, he had a keen interest in music. In the year 2005, he started to rap at the age of 14. 

He released his debut album in January 2016 named Islah which peaked at number 2 on the Us Billboard 200 Chart.  

He has many legal issues, at the age of 13 he was first time arrested for being a passenger in a stolen vehicle. Multiple times he has been in and out of prison.
