People think “Turning Red: is Inappropriate for Kids, But Here Are 10 Disney Movies That are Honestly Inappropriate
This weekend Disney/Pixar’s Turning Red hit Disney+ and it is a complete charmer. It is full of early 2000s nostalgia and tells a relatable and emotional mother-daughter story. This animation movie is inventive and emotional.
But obviously, there are a few critics out there who thought the movie is “too mature” for kids and young audiences. Because it deals with menstruation, puberty, and sexuality.
Let’s put facts aside for a moment that teenage crushes, puberty, and menstruation are all things that really happen to 13- year-olds. And, thus things that must be talked about openly in a movie with a specific audience over that age. Even if you thought Turning Red is “Inappropriate,” there are a lot of other Disney films that are way more improper. Below are some examples of them:
Table of Contents
1. The Little Mermaid
Ariel wants to band Prince Eric so hard that she gives up her friends, family, and even her voice. She then marries him at the age of 16, at the end of the film.
2. Beauty and the Beast
Belle falls in love with her debatably offensive captor, who only becomes a sound person after she ‘Changes’ him. Yeah, sure, he gives her a library but there are so many red flags here that are inappropriate for kids.
3. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Inappropriate descriptions of dwarfism aside, the prince snoops at the end of the movie kisses an unconscious or even presumably dead snow white. That is very weird and introduced all types of consent issues. It is also worth noting that Snow White is considered to be 14 years old in the movie.
4. Sleeping Beauty
Look above, Seriously, stop kissing unconscious princesses.
5. Aladdin
Princess Jasmine is the 15-year-old princess in the movie and marries a man who straight-up lied to her to win her heart. Furthermore, recall that moment when she seduces Jafar to distract him. Again….. She is a 15-year old girl
6. Dumbo
A baby of an elephant gets drunk. I am just telling that it is kinda creepy.
7. Lilo & Stitch
Ok, Lilo and Nani’s parents die in a car crash accident and she attempts to raise Lilo herself. And, CPS agents take away the Lilo. To me, that is too much “Mature” than displaying a pack of pads.
8. Toy Story 3
The toys literally take their mortality and look at each other to a close and painful death. I mean….. Oh my god!!!!!!
9. The Lion King
Scar murders his own brother and then blames Simba for it. It feels quite more mature than a 13-year old’s movie, IDK.
10. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
This movie deals with murder, lust, and genocide. Frollo murders a woman and then tries to drown her baby in like the first ten minutes. He attempts to burn Esmeralda at the stake because she does not want to have sex with him. Dude, it is really scary.
